Q-8 Alumni Association First Annual Scholarship

December 9, 2004—Hofstra ROTC Awards Ceremony

Each and every scholarship winner will have their names engraved onto a scholarship plaque which will be on permanent display in the ROTC awards cabinet at Hofstra.

On a cold and windy afternoon in December, PR alumni joined current Hofstra ROTC cadets and cadre during the Fall Awards ceremony.  Not content to be mere spectators, these alumni led by Board of Trustees Chairman Bill Wagner, were present in order to award the first ever Q-8 Alumni Association Scholarship to a current Q-8 member.

The scholarship was open to all active Pershing Riflemen of Q-8.  After submitting applications the process continued with members of both the board of trustees and the current PR Advisor, CPT Gary Morea, weighing in on the decision.  The award committee was led by Board of Trustees members Matt Zvolenski and Jim Corbett.

On this day it was Bill Wagner’s honor to award this $1,000 scholarship to PR CPT Barry Parker.  Barry received this scholarship in front of the entire cadet battalion and cadre.  Looking on were his current Q-8 brothers and alumni Paul Farinella and USAR LTC Tony Bilello.

Each year the Alumni Association will award another scholarship.  This year’s funds were a donation from PAETEC Communications Corporation.  The Alumni Association advises all PRs and future PRs to keep their grades up in both their academics and ROTC classes.  Why?  Because one of them could be the next award winner!
